Polymyositis is a rare disease. It is estimated that there are between 1-9 cases per 100,000 people.
Typical Age of onset
Typically, polymyositis occurs after age 20. But it most commonly affects individuals between the ages of 31 and 60.
Inflammation of muscles
Muscle weakness in muscles of trunk (hips, thighs, shoulders, upper arms, and neck)
Difficulty climbing stairs
Difficulty lifting arms
Shortness of breath
