The Autoimmune Registry offers two ways for researchers and patients to query our list of 160 suspected and confirmed autoimmune diseases.

Autoimmune Disease List

The disease list allows users to filter autoimmune diseases by three parameters: 1) level of evidence, 2) category, and 3) US prevalence. Users can also type into the disease search box to find a disease.

  1. Levels of evidence include antibody, T-cell, immune-mediated, antibody-suspected, and unconfirmed. More details on the levels of evidence can be found in the FAQs section below.

  2. The autoimmune diseases are also classified by the category of organ systems affected. Current categories listed are major organs, systemic and connective tissue, musculoskeletal, blood, nervous system, digestive system, glands, skin, and vascular system. The major organs category is further subcategorized to include: heart, kidney, bladder, liver, and lungs.

  3. Lastly, filters allow users to query diseases by US prevalence. The filter uses the maximum US prevalence figures based on research papers cited in the disease profiles.

When users select multiple items within a parameter, the results will display a union of the items. However, if users select multiple items across different parameters then the results will be an intersection of the results from each parameter section.

Symptom Search

Users can toggle to a symptom search view of the diseases. Common symptoms that are present in the profiles of at least three autoimmune diseases on our website are displayed in the search area. Symptoms are organized under the following headings: general, head, mouth & throat, chest abdomen & back, limbs, eyes, joint & muscle, gastrointestinal, neurological / sensory, urological, dermatological, cognitive / mood, movement / reflexes, and reproductive health.

Checking off multiple symptoms will generate a list of diseases with all of the symptoms selected. The number next to each symptom indicates the number of diseases with that symptom remaining. As you check off more symptoms, the numbers next to symptoms should decrease. If a symptom box is grayed out with no number next to it, that means there is no disease in our list with the existing selected symptoms as well as the grayed-out symptom. If you believe a symptom should be included for a particular disease, please reach out to us via the contact form below.

As of now, all selected symptoms in the symptom search will be checked off on the individual disease profiles when you visit the profile pages. Your selections will be remembered for 24 hours. To remove all selections, please click reset filters on the upper left corner of the symptom search page.
