Living with social isolation and joining the Smart Patient Community
Living with an autoimmune disease can be isolating. It’s often hard to find others who truly understand the challenges of navigating symptoms, treatments, and the emotional toll that comes with them. Some research has shown that the psychosocial stress associated with isolation can exacerbate autoimmune disease in mice. Others found that patients with diseases such as multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, and RA all suffer from social isolation and loneliness, which negatively affect their quality of life.
Recognizing the importance of community and patient support, the Autoimmune Registry has recently partnered with Smart Patients, an online community for patients and caregivers, to grow our autoimmune community. This platform provides a safe space where you can share your story, find support, and learn from others who truly understand what you’re going through.
Smart Patients believes that patients are the most underutilized resource in medicine and that the patient perspective is often overlooked. Patients and caregivers can join the network at no cost to share, interact, and learn from one another in a safe and supportive environment. By partnering with Smart Patients, we want to help create a community of patients and caregivers who can improve care for themselves and others.
When you are ready, we invite you to join the Smart Patients autoimmune community by visiting: The Autoimmune Registry Smart Patients Community.
To support the Autoimmune Registry, please share our information with others who have autoimmune diseases. Donations are also greatly appreciated!
