Description

This disease is a rare autoimmune disease that affects the skin of pregnant women. Patients experience a rash accompanied by blisters and extreme itching on the abdomen or limbs, which may spread elsewhere. Onset is sudden, often occurring during the second and third trimester.  It is common for the condition to go into remission at the end of pregnancy and then to relapse during birth. Most patients experience full recovery within 6 months of giving birth, though some have reported that symptoms may last for years. The condition is uncomfortable but does not put the patient at risk.  Treatments are available to manage symptoms as needed.
